World Squash Day 2025
World Squash Day was founded by Alan Thatcher and a group of players to honor those in the squash community who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In its inaugural year, a U.S. team traveled to the U.K. for an international match — a gesture of friendship through sport. Since then, World Squash Day (WSD) has grown into a truly global celebration, still championed by its original founder, with clubs and players worldwide staging events to celebrate the sport and welcome new players to the court.
A Rainy Start, but the Game Goes On
The weather on WSD 2025 didn’t initially cooperate — light rain lingered throughout the morning, dampening hopes for the public “Bring a Friend to Play” sessions. But by afternoon, the skies cleared just in time for the day’s highlight: an exhibition match between World #65 Alina Bushma and World #83 Margot Prow — former Drexel University teammates now carving their paths up the PSA World Tour rankings…
Thank you for coming out to play on NY Squash Masters Day, 10/18/2025, at Maspeth Squash.
Thanks to Jeff, Vera, JJ, and Maspeth Welding for hosting, Justin Berlin and NY Squash for building the Masters programs in NYC, and to John Musto, Harmonie Club, and Richard Chin, Harvard Club for their exhibition match and playing insights at the outdoor steel court in Queens.
For Love of Squash , Five Years of Instel Steel Outdoor Squash
At its heart, this invitational tournament has been all about thanking the pioneering pros who've come out to this new court for new experiences to help grow the game, and to promote networking and new connections among young, old, local, international, teaching, touring, and coaching pros. Setting up their own match dates, playing with handicaps, self-refereeing, and getting cash on the spot - these tournament features created a very positive and collaborative vibe…
Timmy Brownell Takes The 5th Annual Instel Steel Pro Outdoor Invitational
Caroline Fouts and Marina Stefanoni Title Match On Hold…
The Summer Festival Intsel Steel V Final Performances were remarkable
In the end, Timmy Brownell prevailed over Nathan Lake in 3 games. Now, both players on the PSA World Tour carry two Intsel Steel Invitational wins and some more cash into their next pro tour season. Nathan was the first PSA Tour pro to reach out to Maspeth about the court in 2020. Spencer Lovejoy, one of the first pros to come out to play in Maspeth in 2020, recommended the Intsel Steel tournament to Timmy.
The women's final is another story, still to be determined. The women's winner of the Qualifier Event, Hannah Chukwu, was delayed in China. Caroline Fouts replaced her at the last minute. Luke Butterworth recommended Caroline, who won two rounds and faced Marina Stefanoni in the finals. Both Caroline (age 19) and Marina (age 22) are top US juniors with prestigious titles, part of the Harvard women's team legacy, and are coached by Luke Butterworth, LB Squash in Greenwich. Caroline enters her sophomore year leading the Harvard team with Lucy Stefanoni, and Marina is heading into her next PSA World Tour season with a world ranking of #28. Caroline has been as high as #59.
With Alwyn Callendar refereeing, the crowd was excited about the start of the featured match of the night in Maspeth. The first game score was 9 to 6 in favor of Caroline when the skies opened up, and it started pouring rain, causing a rain delay. The match is suspended and will be completed at a future date to be announced.
Adegoke Onaopemipo Wins 2025 Maspeth Welding PSA Outdoor Challeger
A sincere thank you to the University Club for hosting the final, as we moved inside to avoid a bad forecast.
Adegoke Onaopemipo met Abdelrahman Nassar in what turned out to be a contest to remember.
7/11, 11/8, 11/4, 5/11, 11/9
The first ever Maspeth Welding Women’s PSA Outdoor Challenger has just concluded. Congratulations to Laila Sedky (USA) for taking the win. Laila met Wen Li Lai (MAS) in the final on Sunday. Both players managed the intense heat and showcased truly high level squash.
Real Life Racquet-Xing
We dropped six thousand dollars on a Squash 57 event that featured players who have mostly never played Squash 57, or even squash, for that matter.
“Come spring and summer, we would lament the fact that we had to play indoor… why?“
The word flux comes from Latin: fluxus means "flow".
Flux is a compound that helps to create a stable arc, which is essential for producing a high-quality weld.

“Smooth Metal Wall Panels”
Metal Architecture Awards judge Rand Elliott, FAIA, calls the Maspeth Squash Court stunningly beautiful. “Talk about somebody thinking about steel and using it in a positive way that was intentional. This is a piece of art.
