THE NEW YORK SUMMER SQUASH OPEN is still open for entries. This is the perfect tournament for Open, A, B, C, and D players in the NYC area who want a taste of competition on the steel court and to participate in a flexible self-scheduling tournament from June to September. So far, over 30 players have signed up for friendly draws at all levels. Entries close on May 21, 2026.

Congratulations to finalist Raghuvir Reddy and to the tournament winner, Imad Athar, in the NYC Outdoor Squash Club Champs Invitational $1.25k. It was a beautifully played, very close match - 14/12, 13/11, 11/9 - on a sunny spring afternoon before a small crowd of 25 squash fans on the outdoor steel court.

How he got into squash: Imad's father played for fun growing up in Germany. When he moved to Hartford for work, it was near Trinity College, a squash powerhouse at the time. Imad’s two older brothers got into it first, and then he and his younger brother followed suit. Imad's younger brother joins him at Columbia in the fall.

The Big Ball Squash57 Pro Invitational $6K

Tournament Setting - This is our second annual Big Ball at Maspeth Squash. Last year’s event celebrated the outdoor spirit of handball, racquetball, and paddleball pros. Here’s the story of the first Big Ball.

This year, our draw celebrates the pros who’ve come out to play squash tournaments, last year’s Big Ball finalist, the 2013 UK Racketball Champion, players on the Squash Doubles Pro Tour and the PSA Squash Tour, and top College Squash teams. Some Pros have played Squash57 competitively. For others, it might be the first time playing a tournament match. It’s sure to be the first outdoor Squash57 pro tournament. We hope it’s a great experience.

The Draw is based on squash rankings. The 2026 Big Ball Players: Salim Khan, Abhishek Agarwal, Peter Creed, Charlie Taylor, Wil Hagen, Jaymie Haycocks, Mohammed Nawar, Clinton W Leeuw, Charles Culhane, Babatunde A. Ajagbe, Felipe Pantle, Joe Robinson, Juan Jaramillo, Chris Walker, Ben Goldenberg.

Scheduling - Round of 16 on Friday. Quarters and Semis on Saturday, Final on Sunday.

Competition - Matches will be best of 3 games. All games are sudden death to 11. Squash57 rules (i.e., Squash with different service rules). Squash57 is UK Racketball on a squash court. Squash57 is sort of like US Racquetball on a squash court. Squash57 is not padel, is not pickleball, is not platform tennis. Squash57 is a racquet sport on a squash court with a bigger rubber ball and racquetball rackets.

Venue - All matches are on the steel court in Maspeth. However, rained-out matches will be hosted at the University Club. Players will be advised of any changes as far in advance as possible.

Refereeing - Players will referee the next match. We will have a WSO referee for the final.

The Big Ball - Price of Bath is the official Squash57 ball.
