winning hasn’t been that important to me for some time…. don’t get me wrong….
my court time… Robert… a natural coach…
Steve… I find it easy to find a line to a good match with Steve… my skillset allows me to easily find… especially after shoulder surgery… literally learning a new forehand… Steve had a similar surgery in the past.
Steve is what I see as a classic enthusiast… whereas Robert runs with a bit of eccentricity.
Summer of Squash 2025…
Touring pros, during a unique time in Squash. Robert puts it…
Marketing rubbing against a history of patronage, prestige and exclusivity.”
Exclusivity wrapped in friction.
We held a Squash 57 event… inviting seasoned pro racquetball, paddleball and handball players… from as far as Denver, Colorado.
At best, squash 57 may be an added attraction for a trendy super-venue to allow for fun-easy transitions for padel players, at best.
Unless US Squash absorbs U.S. Racquetball. It is a wildly authentic American game. I’m pretty confident the
California is a racquetball state.
The USOC would see the pragmatism in this, as USA Racquetball runs on fumes and territories. 57 would be a good way to mitigate transition and relevance. U.S. Squash immediately gets a bump in attention.
Initially, the space represented a place where I could relish in the skill development needed to lift and shape a squash ball using my wrist … and enjoyed the way it transferred onto my One Wall games, lift, shape, etc.
Add to that a space where I can find rehabilitation… both a soulful and practical place to discover ways to all those torn muscles and injuries I never truly respected. (What a difference easy access to solid PT information can be.)
At our events… I guess because of how much time I’ve spent at professional racquetball events in various capacities, any organized event in this space feels like a whatever-it-is opportunity… untroubled. Funny. It’s an outdoor space, subject to rain, a relatively hard space fit, snuggly behind two steel fabrication spaces, existing in a remote, industrial part of Queens.
My peak interest is seeing the pros that traverse here enthusiastically, with tour aspirations. Having toured, in various capacities with the professional racquetball set, the bigger the better.
About that outdoor court push thing… well,
Giant Key Light reference old video… how at certain times in the late afternoon… the sun would key on faces….
Home court vibes…
US Open… 8 years running…. pretty much only…
My handball court… mom friends, older men…
Carmine…. family…
Here…
Steel Court…
Vibes… Sir Robert got it early…. visions of him pulling his son around in a little red wagon.
From here…. I read Steve’s peice… and watcfh Elshorbagy ans Zak… ansd that end… after me thinking what did Sean Choi just say about the new players in the early rounds…?
all relative. Growth? Nah. Pathways. Growth is a balancing act.
