Marina’s
Final
Intsel 5
Breakthrough
The Fifth is a Charm
Marina Stefanoni finally gets her name stamped into the one and only Intsel Steel Pro Invitational Trophy after defeating first-time Intsel Steel tournament contender Caroline Fouts. The women’s final of the $40K Intsel Steel V Pro Invitational was interrupted by rain in August 2025. Timmy Brownell had just won his second Intsel Steel Men’s Championship, defeating two-time champ Nathan Lake in 3 games. The women had to reschedule. Due to Caroline’s university and pro tour schedule, and Marina’s extensive training and pro tour schedule, it took 10 months to get them back on the steel court in Maspeth. The women’s Intsel Steel V final was scheduled for the same day as the final of the Maspeth Welding PSA Challenger $6k on June 28, 2026.
Marina Stefanoni's Intsel Invitational Legacy
● A Constant Title Contender: As one of the marquee names at the Maspeth outdoor steel court since the introduction of separate draws, Stefanoni has consistently spearheaded the elite field, establishing herself as a perennial finalist.
● The Inaugural Women’s Final (2022): In the tournament's second year, which debuted the separate women's professional bracket, Stefanoni blazed her way to the championship match, finishing as the runner-up in a hard-fought battle against Latvia’s world-class pro Ineta Mackevica.
● An Epic Five-Game Thriller (2023): Returning for Intsel Steel III, she once again commanded the draw to reach the grand finale. In what stands as one of the most legendary matches in the event's history, Stefanoni pushed eventual champion Alina Bushma to the absolute absolute limit, narrowly missing out on the title in a heart-stopping 15–13 fifth-game tiebreaker.
● Chasing the Crown (2025/2026): In August 2025, after an intense journey through the highly competitive Summer Festival format with a qualifier tournament before the main draw, Marina steps onto the steel court for this deferred final in June 2026 against Caroline Fouts, determined to capture the one major domestic crown that has narrowly eluded her grasp.
Olympic Look-Ahead: Stars of Team USA
This premier domestic matchup offered a thrilling look at the incredible depth and elite talent driving American women's squash to unprecedented heights. As the sport builds momentum for its historic debut at the LA28 Olympic Games, this showcase final between heavyweights like Stefanoni and Fouts highlighted the exceptional caliber of athletes vying to represent Team USA on the ultimate global stage.
Caroline Fouts (USA)
● PSA Career-High Ranking: No. 59
● Style & Background: Representing Rye, New York, the 20-year-old Harvard standout entered the collegiate ranks as the consensus No. 1 junior in the United States across every single age division. A World Junior Championship Bronze Medalist and recent winner of the 2026 NYC’s Hyder Trophy, Fouts pairs exceptional physical fitness with relentless competitive grit, making her a formidable challenger on the professional circuit.
Marina set the tone, in front of her sister Lucie and her Mom, with a decisive 3-game victory over Caroline, 11/7, 11/3, 11/4. It capped off a great year for Marina, as her PSA ranking rose to 14 in the world.
Here Comes Lucie Stefanoni (USA)
During this same week in June 2026, Marina’s younger sister, Lucie, worked her way through the Maspeth Welding PSA Challenger $6K and reached the finals after defeating Laila Sedky, the 2025 Maspeth Welding PSA Challenger winner, in a thriller. So, it turned out that both Stefanoni sisters were playing finals in two different tournaments on the same day in Maspeth.
Marina’s Maspeth charm rubbed off on her sister. Lucie Stefanoni claimed her maiden tour title in style, her first Challenger with victory at the Maspeth Welding Steel Court Championship 2026, continuing a legacy of steel.
